Dear Friends,
My mother passed away recently and our family has been grieving her loss. She was such an integral part of our lives and, despite the distance, was constantly checking in on her three children, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. We all miss her daily calls and messages.
I have worked for nonprofits in Nicaragua for nearly thirty years now, and my mother was always a great supporter. She lived on very limited income, but always made sure that she could donate to our work in Nicaragua.
Her generosity was driven by her strong faith and commitment to serving the most vulnerable. She particularly liked to donate to education programs that afforded young people the opportunity to continue their education. From her I learned these lessons, as well as the importance of serving others through volunteering.
In her honor, we are establishing the Debbie Schaller Memorial Scholarship Fund. All donations to this fund will be designated to our Youth in Action Program, which provides scholarships for high school, technical and university students. In this way, her legacy will continue to create opportunities for young people in Nicaragua to transform their lives through education.
